Geography can feel distant. Something that happens out there to us. Not in here. Academic geography definitely strays from anything directly internal. I'm not sure why.
But what if it was something that starts internally brought us a sense of peace? To deeply know our true place in the world. Not perfection but some harmony. What would that experience be like?
I reckon we would feel that our bodies are the foundation for our geographical journey and human experience. We would know they are not separate from where we live, they are the start of it. We would revel in this experience and hum along feeling fine and dandy.
We would feel completely embraced by our local area. Whilst this will be different for everyone and vary wildly, it would involve a sense of relaxation, enjoyment, freedom and connection in the places that we spend most of our times. Like stepping out on our street is a holiday.
We would understand the human characteristics that have shaped our country or nation and we would feel a great collective togetherness of it all. We would know that we are somehow from this land and place and inseparably part of it whether we were born there or not. We would feel love for it.
And in doing so we would seek to understand our place in the global game. What would finding our place globally look like? If this took a harmonious feeling then we would know our place as part of the Earth and all its inhabitants as a global family. In it and of it and all ok with it.
Finally we would feel our place in the universe. We would know the sky was a blanket of life of those gone before and those to come and many other things that cannot be named. We would feel and relate to our place in this expanding universe and know we are simply ok right where we are for all time.
Not to seek perfection - there would be messy parts as you need a bit of grit in life but it's a dream i can get behind.
Wouldn’t that be something to experience? I’d take that over millions of TikTok views.
